English for Academic Purposes (EAP) (LEVELS 1–2)

Course Overview

The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course is designed to prepare international students to undertake tertiary study in Australia. Students enrolled in this course are focused on developing the English language and academic skills needed to successfully complete a tertiary-level course at an Australian institution.

The course is delivered across 2 levels, providing specialist study preparation that progresses from a language focus to a skills focus. Each level runs for 10 weeks.

EAP Level 1 and Level 2 each run for 10 weeks, making the full course 20 weeks in total. Classes are delivered face-to-face in a classroom setting for 20 hours per week. Students are also expected to complete at least 5 hours of self-study each week.

What You’ll Learn Students will build academic English skills across the following areas:

Reading

  • Build reading speed systematically
  • Understand text organisation and structure
  • Identify main ideas, supporting details, and academic arguments

Writing

  • Develop paragraph and essay writing skills
  • Organise ideas clearly and logically
  • Use appropriate academic language and referencing conventions

Listening & Speaking

  • Improve note-taking and listening for lectures or discussions
  • Participate confidently in tutorials, presentations, and group discussions
  • Develop pronunciation, fluency, and spoken academic communication

Study & Research Skills

  • Set learning goals and identify language needs
  • Use academic support services and learning resources
  • Develop research and computer-based study skills
  • Understand and avoid plagiarism
  • Manage study time and work independently or collaboratively

Progression & Pathways

The EAP course is designed to prepare students for further academic study in Australia. Successful completion may support progression into vocational education or other tertiary pathways, depending on individual English levels and the entry requirements of the receiving institution.

Students may also explore selected pathway opportunities with affiliated providers such as New Cambridge College Sydney (NCCS) and NVR Education, in study areas including Business, Leadership and Management, Project Management, Accounting, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Community Services, Information Technology, and Civil Construction Design.
